Gimpo Airport to Seoul: AREX, Subway Line 5 & Line 9 Explained
Gimpo International Airport (GMP) is much closer to central Seoul than Incheon. Several rail lines meet at Gimpo Int'l Airport Station.
AREX all-stop train → Seoul Station, Hongdae
- VisitKorea puts the AREX all-stop train at about 23 minutes from Gimpo to Seoul Station.
- On the way it stops at Magongnaru (Line 9), Digital Media City, Hongik Univ. (Hongdae, Line 2) and Gongdeok (Lines 5 and 6).
- The AREX Express train runs non-stop between Incheon Airport and Seoul Station, so it does not stop at Gimpo. Take the all-stop train.
- Pay with a T-money or other transit card, or buy a single-journey ticket from a station machine.
Subway Line 5 → downtown (Gwanghwamun, Jongno)
Line 5 runs from Gimpo Airport into downtown Seoul. You can change to Lines 1 and 3 at Jongno 3-ga.
Subway Line 9 → Yeouido and Gangnam
Line 9 has both express and local trains. Seoul's TOPIS service says Line 9 links Gimpo Airport to the Gangnam area in about 30 minutes.
Other options
VisitKorea also lists airport limousine buses, taxis, the Gimpo Goldline and the Seohae Line. Together, these lines reach most of central Seoul and the surrounding area in about an hour.
Tip: get a transit card first
A T-money card works on AREX, the subway and buses, and gives you transfer discounts.
